Chlidanthus fragrans - Golden yellow, 3" crocus-like, very sweetly fragrant flowers emerge in mid-summer before the gray-green foliage follows. Deer and rodent proof, this 6"-8" plant is perfect for the front of the garden, patio containers and window boxes. A South American native, Chlidanthus is not hardy and likes to be planted in warm soil, so it may be best to pot up the bulbs when you receive them and place them, pot and all, in the garden. Then you can easily lift them out in October to be stored in a cool, dry place for the winter or you can treat them as an annual. 12+ cm bulbs; 5 per sq. ft.; zones 9-11.
